WELCOME to MY WEBSITE!
I am a self-taught artist living on an island in Washington state. I have always found creativity to be rewarding. Experimentation with different techniques and mediums has challenged me mentally and has opened my eyes and brain to infinite possibilities. Painting has become an essential part of my daily life.
The technique used for these paintings is called “Watercolor Batik”. My paintings are the result of experimentation with color, shape, light and texture. I paint on rice paper, paying particular attention to patterns of light and dark. The painting is then covered with paraffin wax. After the wax is dry, the work is crumpled and more color is added. This process allows the paint to seep into the cracks, after more paraffin is applied. The wax is then removed. Because some of the wax remains in the paper, the painting is durable, somewhat like fabric. The edges are deckled. The result is a boldly colorful, beautifully textured painting. This technique gives a distressed, vintage-like look to my work.
The paintings can be framed with the deckled edges hidden or in a floater frame.
When I paint, I feel a spiritual connection and I hope that connection can be conveyed to my viewers through my work.
I have shown my work as the featured artist in several galleries on Vashon island, Washington and participate in the Art studio Tour there. Three of my paintings are currently on display at Gather Vashon on Vashon Island.
